PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME · CLASS OF 2018

THE TERRELL Owens story

Slide image

ALEXANDER CITY TO CANTON

THE WHOLE RUN, TOLD PROPERLY.

Terrell Owens grew up in Alexander City, Alabama, raised by his mother and grandmother, and never assumed football would take him further than college. He wasn't the player Chattanooga came to recruit. Their coaches were at his high school to see another receiver and left having found him. At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga he played football and basketball and ran track, and he outworked everyone around him. In 1996 the San Francisco 49ers took him in the third round, 89th overall. Nobody watching the draft that day thought they were looking at a Hall of Famer.

Over fifteen seasons he became one of the most productive receivers the game has ever seen. There was the Wild Card game-winner against Green Bay, a then-record 20-catch afternoon against Chicago, and a Super Bowl played on a leg that should have kept him on the sideline. Across San Francisco, Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo and Cincinnati he put up 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdowns, made six Pro Bowls, was named first-team All-Pro five times, and earned a place on the All-Decade Team of the 2000s. He did it his way, on the biggest stage the sport has.

In 2018 he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and he chose to celebrate his enshrinement not in Canton but back in Chattanooga, in front of the school and the city that shaped him. Today he runs his own ventures, from the podcast and the court to the foundation and the collections. The clothing goes back to his childhood, watching his mother work as a seamstress and learning early how much the right piece can change the way you carry yourself. He also speaks to audiences about the same principles that shaped him and took him to the Hall of Fame, his 3 D's: Desire, Dedication and Discipline.

Five Cities. one standard.

The cities changed. The jersey changed. The way he worked never did.

The Standard

Elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Enshrined on his own terms, in Chattanooga, in front of the people who were there first.

WHAT CARRIED HIM THERE

DESIRE. DEDICATION. DISCIPLINE.

Three words, one standard - and the same message he brings to every stage he's on.
